Twice each August we fly a small group into northern Mongolia for the largest salmonid on earth. Remote camp, rafts, no other anglers, and taimen that eat mice off the surface. Two departures, six to nine rods each, and that is the entire year.

Spots go early and we do not run a public booking calendar for Mongolia — the logistics are too involved for it to be useful. Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Ulaanbaatar

    Arrival and overnight in Ulaanbaatar, gear check.

  2. Day 2

    Fly to camp

    Charter flight and transfer to the remote river camp.

  3. Day 3

    First water

    Orientation float and first taimen session.

  4. Day 12

    Last light on the river

    Final full guided day on the home pools.

  5. Day 13

    Return

    Charter flight back to Ulaanbaatar, departure.

Open Season: August

August is the window. Water levels, temperature and the mouse bite all line up, and they do not line up reliably at any other time of year.
